The Yoga Workshop will be offering an advanced level training for yoga teachers who wish to bring therapeutic yoga to those suffering from trauma and addiction. This 8 hour training will be taught by Nancy Candea, Director of Yoga Impact. The training will clarify the biological and psychodynamic aspects of trauma and addiction from a yoga therapy perspective, and prepare yoga teachers to modify their teaching techniques in service to challenged populations. By adding therapeutic elements to the classic yoga practices of breath work and meditation, participants will discover ways to bring personal awareness and a sense of internal peacefulness to people most in need of it.

The course was designed by Kula for Karma, a New Jersey non-profit that promotes wellness among society’s most vulnerable populations – those challenged by illness, disabilities, violence and other traumas, at no cost. Kula pioneers the integration of therapeutic yoga, meditation, and stress management into mainstream medicine and healthcare. Yoga Impact brings the science and art of a yoga lifestyle to underserved populations - those who have been displaced from their homes, by acts of violence or because of special needs - people in prisons, women and children’s shelters, homeless shelters, rehab centers, group homes, transitional facilities and at risk youth.

Geri Topfer, Kula for Karma Co-Founder and President said, “This training provides a solid foundation for teachers who want to expand their field into trauma and addiction. Our goal is to educate teachers on the needs and skills necessary for teaching people who have been affected by addiction and trauma - we can make a difference to so many lives.”
